Joanne Stanhope

I joined Swanwick Hall School as a Parent Governor in May 2021. I have a particular interest in the school and its success as I am a former pupil of the school, my daughter joined the school in September 2020, and I am a resident in the village.

I have worked for the NHS since 2014 in training and project management and prior to this, have an extensive working background and qualifications both in the legal and childcare sectors.

I am keen to contribute to ensure that the school is running to the best of its ability and that a representative voice is available from a parental perspective. I believe in the importance of education and that what the children learn today can and will impact on the future for us all.

I joined Swanwick Hall has a co-opted governor in December 2021 and then I became a staff governor in June 2022. As an ex-student, parent, local resident and now a staff member, I am passionate about ensuring students have a safe environment to study and are given the support and opportunities they need for their next stages in life.

I have worked in the educational sector for the last 5 years. Prior to this I was a project and operations manager for a local charity organisation, providing support services for family and young carers; delivering services on behalf of the local authority and NHS. My work background includes health and safety, HR, marketing and team management.

I joined Swanwick Hall in 2002 and became a staff Governor in 2007. Prior to this I worked at a Fresh Start school in Bulwell, Nottingham and before that at a school in Forest Town, Mansfield. There are many reasons that I am proud to work at Swanwick Hall including the energy of our students, the high level of safeguarding that is in place and the level of expertise across all faculties within school. Both my children attended Swanwick Hall and have used the positive experience to grow from strength to strength. Our broad curriculum allows all students to achieve and as a staff governor I am delighted that the wider ranging ambitions of our students are met, ensuring that their next step beyond Swanwick Hall is positive, allowing them to achieve their goals and having the confidence to realise their potential. As an established governor, I am keen to contribute to the school in it’s continuing development and journey of improvement.

By joining the school governing board in 2023 as a Parent Governor, my ambition is to have a positive contribution towards continuous development for the children, their individual growth, their learning, and for the school to realise their objectives; not only to achieve them but excel and surpass expectations.

I attended Swanwick Hall School as a pupil many years ago.

My own personal experiences have brought me strength through real adversity, and a high level of perspective, motivation and understanding over a wide variety of matters that can impact on everyday life. As a parent of two children at Swanwick Hall School, I would hope these experiences can assist a true equal and diverse approach.

Professionally, I have over 20 years of experience in the public sector, working closely with communities in complex and confrontational situations. I have a lot of experience in safeguarding, project management, and leadership.

As elected parent governor of Swanwick Hall School, my aim is to enhance the school journey for every child and for them to make as many happy memories as possible throughout their school experience.

Andrea Robinson

I am a parent of a child at Swanwick Hall School. I have worked at a specialist school in a different county for over 9 years and I feel my experience there can greatly contribute to my role as a Parent Governor at Swanwick Hall School.

I have previously been a trustee for the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists until October 2022 and part of a church committee prior to the pandemic. My work background is varied; I have experience of working for the NHS prior to my current work and within the public sector before then.

My aim for being a Parent Governor at Swanwick Hall School is to ensure the pupils are supported holistically so that they can be the best version of themselves throughout their time at the school but in particular when the time comes for them to leave.

Since becoming a parent governor in 2023 I have really enjoyed working alongside the other governors and staff to support the school in the best way possible. I attended the school myself over 20 years ago and have two children, one is a past student of the school and now studying at Sheffield University and the other still attends the school, so feel I have a close connection to the Swanwick Hall.

I have worked as an electrical project manager within the education sector for over 20 years and believe this have given me good knowledge of the school environment. I’ve also managed my youngest son’s grassroots football team for over 5 years and feel this has given me a really good understanding of the needs of children from different backgrounds.

I have always been impressed with the overall running of the school but believe there is always room for improvement, my aim as parent governor is to share my own and other parents views and ideas on how the school could improve in the future to ensure as many pupils as possible have a good education and a positive outlook on their future both at and beyond Swanwick Hall School.

I have very recently been co-opted as a governor at Swanwick Hall school.

My own background is in education having taught in a Nottinghamshire comprehensive for 17 years and more recently in a Derbyshire Special school until my retirement last year. I really enjoyed my time in teaching and now would like to continue focussing on the education of young people through governance.

I have been a Governor in a local Primary school for a number of years which I have enjoyed a great deal and now hope to continue to support students at a secondary level.
